Booster Jab for Immunocompromised following Third Primary Dose

Hello Bronte sorry you are finding it difficult - it is so important for all to get the fourth dose. The original link I used above from NHS does list for all walk in centres that they are providing boosters for those who have had 3 prime doses for immunosuppression. Do try one local to you
The link again is Find a walk-in coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination site - NHS
All you need as proof is the original letter you had for the third prime dose
I was able to have mine at my GP surgery, I wasn’t called for it just asked for it when it was three months from no 3 dose and was booked in straight away without any hesitation
Let us know how you get on

@Jilly20 Thanks for the info. I am not sure what I am going to do.I am so weary of fighting, arguing and explaining. I just don’t want to do it anymore when it is something that should be so straightforward for those like myself who are eligible.

I do understand Bronte - I felt the same when I needed the third prime yet I didn’t get the letter for it, I found it soul destroying and was so weary I knew I couldn’t chase my GP or consultant team - the fact that they are both excellent felt worse why are thy not writing to me ?? Didn’t feel I wanted the chase around and disappointment, had it not been for BCUK and all their good advice and practical letters along with MPN Voice I wouldn’t have done it - but I did and had nothing but kindness from the vaccine centre I went to despite at the time they had no input about third doses. So for the booster I had expected it to be hardgoing and again had no invitation from anywhere - but it could not have been easier on contacting my GP surgery who knew all about fourth doses for immunosuppressive patients and I was booked in immediately.
Do give it a go maybe at your surgery all the best

Hi Nichola,
I got my 4th dose yesterday having received a text invitation. I did not need a covering letter, it seems the local practice sent the invitations. It would seem that it is being done in different ways in different parts of the country which is not conducive to one having confidence in the system.
I could now do with an antibody test to see if I continue to shield or not.

So, no letter, so phoned 119 for the PCR test, they said phone my doctor - the doctor said that it was central nhs not them, phone 119 for the test, and phone my consultant to check my records are correct - I’m still in a loop.

With regards to the jab, it looked like my luck was in, there was a walk in centre in Liskeard, checked the NHS website, open 10-4 today.
When I got there, (1.45) it was empty - there was a sign outside saying it was a vaccine centre, no marshals, it’s a methodist church.
I opened the main door, the lights were out, I called around, no answer, I followed the covid vaccination sign to the main church hall, there were signs everywhere, a one way system, a screened off area for vaccines, but the lights were off, and there was no-one there at all …
Marie Celeste… it’s very weird being in an old, empty, dark church, that looks like the occupants were just lifted into thin air.
Went back home, called 119, who were adamant the centre was open, then just gave me an e-mail address to write in a complaint

Off to the Argyle walk in centre tomorrow in Plymouth, it’s massive, I’m sure a whole 18,600 seater football stadium will have someone there

Sometimes I wonder if I am just jinxed

No @heatherthomas I do not think that you are jinxed as it appears you are not the only one battling to get your 4th/booster vaccine.
Perhaps what you might be finding, as you have said in your previous posts, is the mileage and accessibility involved where you live in the West Country.
Oh what an eerie Methodist Church experience you had.
You must be so stressed, anxious and absolutely exhausted with your run around vaccine quest.
Please keep us updated and be kind to yourself.

I have successfully had my 4th jab, Pfizer again, that’s all 4 pfizer. Yeah!!!
There were not many “customers” there, but the Argyle was all fully staffed, I still had the “go to the front of the queue the back way” treatment, even though there wasn’t much of a queue (about 5 people)… last time it was many hundreds
They didn’t like the letter much (not surprised) but I also had my drugs with me, with the label and recent date/name etc, and as I said I had my third jab there, and had the card to show it said 3rd, not booster, they let me through.
Not sure if it was the fact it was raining, and windy, and a horrid morning helped - who else, but someone who really thought they needed it, would be out in that weather!

With regard to PCR and antivirals
My GP phoned me again last night to say there was nothing they could do about getting me the PCR, and it should all be done through central NHS, it’s designed to save the GP’s work!.
However, he said they have discussed me at their evening “wash-up” meeting, and they all agree I should have this, so he has said, that I should
1 get back to 119 for the PCR, and
2. a hospital consultant, to make sure I am registered correctly on the NHS system (I “see” a different one each time)
… however if I do lateral flow test +ve, and nothing else has been sorted, then call them, and whatever it takes to get me the pcr and antivirals, they will ensure it happens

Things are looking up

So,
the pcr saga,
I have no letter
so phone 119
they won’t send one, pass me to my doctor
doctor says phone 119
so, just tried 119 again, still a brick wall
so I try online instead, however, you get nearly to the end, and it says …

Call us to get a coronavirus test

You need a mobile phone number to apply online for a coronavirus test.
If you do not have one, you can call our contact centre to get a test:

  • Call 119 (free from mobiles and landlines)
    …
why do I need a mobile phone, when there is no signal where I live, why can’t the results be sent to e-mail!!!
They say they send results to a mobile, if they do, I won’t get them, as I will probably be too sick to wander about on the roads outside the village, waving my 2g phone in the air, to get a signal, so I can get the flipping results in a text.
I am wondering if this is why I haven’t been sent a pcr as standard.
I can’t seem to do anything online with covid, even though I have a great laptop, up to date microsoft everything, and superfast broadband, and a great printer.
I can’t check my vaccination status, I can’t register negative lateral flows, I can’t get a pcr, everything I try, needs a mobile phone signal, for them to either text you the results, or a security code,
have they never heard of e-mail!

Thank goodness for my doctor!

Yes @heatherthomas Thanks goodness for your doctor

Yeah!!!
3 more attempts at 119, and eventually had someone who will send me the pcr test

When they got the the question - are you a part of a trial, I was saying no
The last time, I said - I’m not sure, I am immune suppressed, and my consultant has said that they want me to do a PCR immediately, if I have any symptoms, or test positive on a lateral flow, as they want to start anti-virals as soon as possible,
so I’m not sure if it’s a trial, or just very new treatment, but my consultant was adamant that I should have one already available to do straight away

So I’m not sure if it was just a very helpful person, or if this meant a different box was ticked,

Either way, I think the message is, keep persevering, work out what question you are failing on the script, and answer it differently the next time.

Not sure I would have kept going, If I had not seen others here were actually getting results, thanks to everyone.

A bottle of fizz is in the fridge for tonight! :clinking_glasses: :joy:

Hi @heatherthomas.

Who says you need a mobile to register a lateral flow test? I do everything on the computer - register the results of lateral flow tests on gov.uk and after inputting the result they send an email and also a text with the results. I also take a photo of the test with the phone to prove the test was done when I say it was done - in the data about the photo shows when it was taken.

Your are not the only one hitting brick walls these days. I want to book my booster (4th) vaccine but all I get off the NHS is I can’t book anything because as far as they are concerned I’ve had my booster (3rd) vaccine. The system doesn’t look after us. Unfortunately I will have to use a “walk-in” centre and see what happens though I will be there at 08.30am before the stampede arrives! Time will tell.

And as for the news today of scrapping the need for face coverings and eventually doing away with staying at home if you test positive that doesn’t give me confidence for the future. Covid is a greater killer than flu (1,598 in 2018) has ever been and I view this as the government running scared and using false data to justify a cause. Life will never be the same as pre-Covid. Would we tolerate 350 deaths on the roads every day? Latest data I read suggests 1,516 deaths in 2020 or 4 to 5 a day. I don’t mean to be gloomy but if folk who test positive are allowed to mingle freely how are we to feel safe in society. Food for thought.

It looks like my letter to my local doctors surgery pointing out the discrepancy of recording my 3rd primary as a booster worked as i had a phone call today to attend a clinic on 27th for my 4th jab, so it pays to keep at it

Hi Venus
Im with you about the dropping of face coverings, its far to early for scrapping restrictions, i will still be wearing a covering in public places

Well I am still trying to get a fourth vaccine third having been recorded as a booster but have now got hospital letter suggesting fourth vaccine GP still insisting I have had booster. Local PCN centre where I had three vaccines in the latter case accompanied by music and line dancing (village hall corridor) has now shut permanently. Nearest walk in centre advertised on line where I rocked up early in morning at Pharmacy distribution centre also now closed owing to limited take up. PCN receptionist with whom I am now developing a close working relationship is trying to get me appointment at only GP offering vaccines in area but unfortunately due to boundaries in next county otherwise it will have to be train into city mass vaccine centre definitely not after the relaxing of mask rule!!
