Football Talk

Hi,
I take it you’re referring to Tony Cottee. Top end player with a scoring ability. Must admit my regular attendance to live matches had wained by then but I recall his input/actions in a game being well reported by the media.
Its with the media I believe he may have dabbled as I remember him on commentary and as a pundit before the practice became commonplace.

Sorry @Erica Everton don’t do things the easy way,
I suppose I will have to reluctantly support Liverpool now, sorry @Iain

Hi @anon06 the Gunners do not deserve the No.1 slot (which they are not going to get now anyway)

I seen the closing stages, the comments were bad performance, but great season. I believe you would of happily taken a Champions League place at the start of the season, although I know this is of no consolation

So, so true @anon06!!!

Football and Sport in general make sense and can be crazy at the time, @Erica is naturally disappointed with Arsenal finishing 2nd in league as I was with Everton in 1986. Fans will celebrate avoiding relegation, mabye relief. I would swop positions with Arsenal, just like teams avoiding relegation in 1986 would swop places with Everton stating the obvious. Still If you weigh everything up it is crazy

Hi @anon06 it sure is crazy, but it is another emotional rollercoaster I am on !!!

Erica and Anon this evening is it!
Foxes v. Liverpool, you know that’s the team Anon now supports .
If ’s get a win it’ll be like winning the Prem.

I can see me needing some more Chemotherapy tonight (40% strength) :tumbler_glass:

Certainly the Gooners may have let a lead slip but a good 2nd to Man City is no bad season.

My Reaction is that it will obviously be an advantage to Everton if, I will reluctantly want Liverpool to win RELUCTANTLY THOUGH! Having to want Liverpool to win that would benifit Everton is as painful as squezing trousers on that don’t fit!

Seeing Liverpool fans wanting Foxes to win just to screw the Toffees. So much for friendly Eurovision image of the Scousers.
Was it Shanks who said " matter of life or death? its more important than that!"

Thats Silly, they still have a Champions League place to fight for. Back in 1995 some Liverpool fans wanted Blackburn to beat them, to disadvantage Man Utd.

Hope your team shows some pride & beats Forest @Erica and you never know!

People now stream live football Saturday 3pm kick offs.
Therefore what is the point of stopping British TV Channels from showing Saturday 3pm kick offs?

Yep, seen that Gunners lost to Forest and the implications.
Congratulation to Man City they have had a brilliant season.

Still the Gunners will nead their passports.
With Toffees getting a fighting point and Foresr securing their future its looking like the inevitable will be the Foxes fate on Monday.

Anything can happen.

Although “pushbacks” is what supporters look for, a teams destiny is determined by themselves.

Its embarrassing, for example although I was relieved at Minas equaliser today, I was then “looking for” a West Ham Scarf.

On a different subject In 2016 Evertons board sacked Roberto Martinez who was 12th. Roberto was never the answer, he did not know how to defend & insisted on having a 25 pass move when 10 would have been more sufficient. Trying to play like Barcelona is ok in theory, but it rarely works in practice. Martinez worked a miracle with Wigin, but Everton were a team who were top 6 & 7 regulars even 4th!

Nevertheless Roberto left the club in 12th position & now Everton are 4th from bottom?!

Although blessed with players he did get Belgium to a number of Semi finals at International level, “you” still have to lead the team and blend tactics.

Its not necessarily the sacking of the manager thats a problem, its his replacement or plural in Everton’s case

We have the inevitable Everton scenario, the Leicester scenario since 2016 is also unbelievable.

Overall I don’t really blame managers, perhaps players, but its the boards who pick managers who sign players. Im sure we can all relate to bad board decisions, even @Erica and @Rammie18.

You are so right @anon06 where has my gratitude gone.
During my isolation walks I always talked to the young council guy that emptied the bins in the park.
He and his whole family were lifelong Brentford season ticket holders and when they were promoted to the premiership in 2021 he was so elated and proud.
Very soon after he realised when the new season started their first match was against Arsenal and his heart sank into his boots all summer, he was so demoralised.
What happened ‘The Bees’ won, well he just could not contain himself and I never heard the end of it!!
As they are local I have also followed their progress since and I think that they have earned their red and white stipes in the premiership.
It sure is an unpredictable game and that is why we love it.
