Hi,
About 11 years ago I had a funny turn and was rushed into hospital, all was clear and they thought it might have been food poisoning, my blood results were not right but my gp started to investigate.
My white blood cell count was 13500 and they monitored it for 4 years where it was a slowly increasing, my last blood test was 2017 where it came back at 17000. My GP wrote a letter to the hospital for advice and they didnt seem concerned and my doctor stopped monitoring. I am type 2 diabetic so have other blood tests but not full blood count. At the time they were monitoring my ESR and CRP and both were alway high 50 for ESR and 35 for CRP. I am overweight by quote a bit.
My daughter who is a teenager has had a blood test and the new doctor is worried as her white blood cell has come back at 16K. When he looked at family history he noticed mine has been high and is concerned it was never gotten to the bottom of it. So he wants a full blood count which has got me worried. I am worried about my daughter and would rather focus on her. I have no other symptoms and neither does my daughter. Both my results and my daughters results are high neutrophils.
Just not sure what to do
Hi @paul3 I am so glad that you have found us.
From what you say it sounds as if your new doctor is going to be doing tests to rule conditions in or out.
I realise, as a parent, you are more worried about your daughter, but it sounds as if the similarities in your blood tests means the doctor is looking at you as a family, and perhaps hereditary connections.
So perhaps it is a very difficult time for you both waiting and not knowing.
You say that you and your daughter have no symptoms, and I know this is easier said than done, but try to divert yourselves and just live your lives and enjoy yourselves.
Please do keep posting and be very kind to yourselves
Hi @paul3 and welcome to the forum.
I can see @Erica has given really good advice.
Of course you’re going to worry but it’s important that your health is checked as well as your daughters.
Please keep us updated and take good care of yourself
I will, obviously worried about my daughter but really angry at my GP, mine was being monitored but never investigated and they said not to worry, now a new doctor at the surgery said it should have been investigated
Yes - I would feel the same and would definitely want some answers as to why why it wasn’t investigated earlier. Have you got copies of the letters sent to the hospital? If not, you are entitled to access your records. This may give you some of the information you need.
I have not seen the letters but I will request them. I do have access to my results online and I was really concerned about the trend but my GP reassured me that it was nothing to worry and sometimes people just have high white blood cell for no reason.
I will book in for my white blood cell I guess and see what they are now at, don’t want to it as it’ll I am worried now at what they might be and I want to focus on my daughter.
Take good care of yourself
