Moving from W&W to treatment

Hi all. I was diagnosed with Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) 8 years ago and generally, my blood levels have been stable, however, last year the lymphocyte count had increased a bit. My latest blood tests in October were significantly higher, with the lymphocyte count increasing almost fourfold. I attended hospital last week to see my consultant, who now advises a move to treatment. She has been very thorough and informative and the treatment is likely to be Obinutuzumab in combination with Venetoclax. My heallth since the end of August has not been great, so I.m relieved in a sence that the ubderlying issue is the Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL).

Clearly, I’m anxious about starting treatment and am also a bit concerned about what impact this might have on our travel plans for April next year, when we hoping to visit the Dutch bulb fields. Therefore, if you have experience of this treatment and any implications for travel, I’d love to hear them. Thanks

Hi @mayb welcome to our forum.
So the time has come for treatment to begin, I reckon it is very natural to feel anxious when it is the unknown.
I hope others will be able to share their experiences, although we are all special, unique beings with individual medical histories.
As for the impact on your travel plans ( which sound stunning, by the way) it is in the future which none of us know.
Perhaps your medical team are the ones to ask as they know you and your treatment plan.
However personally I would say get comprehensive travel insurance, that might be costly, and declare everything as we have compromised immune systems. I also have Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL).
You can also talk to the Blood Cancer UK support line on 0808 2080 888.
Please do keep letting us know how you are getting on and really look after and be very kind to yourself
