The Friday Forum Jukebox Club!

Love how these words feel so relevant today @DuncanB, great choices. Going to listen to all these songs now, thanks for the music everyone!

Better late than never (perhaps!) but I’ve been enjoying the shaded sun outdoors today in my favourite café’s garden after a week stuck inside due to a vile heatwave

For SUN how about some breezy soul from Lady Wray with Under The Sun: https://youtu.be/V7nty32WXR8

For CHANGE I couldn’t help but think of the Dune film soundtracks, dry desert heat, and how I miss the rain: https://youtu.be/HOvfo9ycY7Q

(Hope these silly links work!)

Wow, thanks @Duncan your links work perfectly and 2 very different songs both lovely in their own way. That Dune number is really evocative, good old Hans Zimmer.

His music can be so epic, I love a good dramatic Zimmer bassy riff! Can’t wait for the next Dune film either :desert::worm: :crossed_swords:

Hope you’re well dear @Erica and getting excited for spring :hibiscus::cherry_blossom::sunflower:

Thanks for asking @Duncan I am not doing too bad despite trying to manage the fatigue, hot flushes (I thought I was well past them) and head skin cancer appearances.

The sun is just starting to make appearances, I have my summer hat on and I am really enjoying my walking and ear buds I got myself for Christmas. I note that the weather is a bit hotter with you.

Two great choices from you @Barry1

Your selections each week always introduce me to something new

Thanks @Duncan

Like @Barry1 you always come up with something that’s new music to me.

Loving the variety of what everyone is sharing

Hopefully not struggling too much @Erica

Sounds like a challenging time for you at present.

Nice you are getting out in the sun.

Take care

Know what you mean @Erica about managing fatigue, it can really slow stuff down for me. Hot flushes though, hasn’t your body given you enough to be juggling?! Tell those hot spells to politely go away, I say!

Funny you should mention your summer hat, I’m on the look-out for one with high UPF sun protection but they all seem to look like cowboy hats here haha. Rather hats than further complications with our skin though, right?! At this rate I’ll start carrying a parasol to keep me shaded! Seriously though for a moment, I am sorry you’ve had to deal with that skin cancer Erica, I hope it’s under control.

I’m with you on loving the variety @DuncanB, I love how we end up sharing such a wide mix. And there seems to be more of us into right now, so cool!

Ahh PJ Harvey, be still my heart! Isn’t her music incredible @d00d, I wonder if you’ve been lucky to see her play live? Love her more recent stuff too, so poetic.

Again 2 excellent choices @Duncan - bit late getting back on this, but that Lady Wray vid is so much fun, and the track has totally earwormed to be my feelgood Sunday track of the day

Two absolute classics @Jonpd

Thanks for sharing

Oh I love that you enjoyed Lady Wray too, hadn’t seen that bright video before! The album it’s from is a favourite, especially Come On In. She’s so funny live, getting the audience to bring her whiskey shots when we last saw her!

No, never seen her live, but would have loved to have witnessed that rendition.

That would be very cool! Maybe she’ll play it on a future tour :guitar:

My concert going days were 70s/early 80s, I saw Morrissey in the mid 90s, that was enough, Ha!

I’m in my 70s now, and getting a bit wobbly.

Know what you mean about getting a bit wobbly @d00d, personally I like my seated concerts these days, if possible. Outdoor venues even better!

Live music is so good @d00d @Duncan

It’s on the no list for me at present sadly.

I like smaller venues these days.

Only a few outdoor festivals over the years which I enjoy apart from the fact that no band or artist tends to get enough time for a full set

You know, I’ve been thinking all this talk of concert-going might feel a bit exclusionary to those who can’t get to them for various reasons. Thank you for the reminder @DuncanB. I hope it’s not rubbing salt in any wounds for anyone. Also, I trust you can build your immunity back up to being safer at a concert?

Maybe, like you say, festivals are one good way to be outside and see music performed. I agree about their shorter sets though, often only 30 minutes! Are there local 1-day folk festivals around the Highlands, Duncan? Thinking of the various folk music events around Wales and wondering if there are equivalents for you. Some bigger cities have great free festivals worth travelling for too. We’ve got one called Mosswood Meltdown (certainly not free, sadly) only a bus ride away in a beautiful park that both my oncology and endocrinology wards look out over!

It is of course a total privilege to live in proximity to live music spaces, indoors or out, and be able to attend. Should probably say that I am very careful and always wear a proper mask when I go to busy places, especially indoors. No one seems to bat an eyelid at mask-wearing round here, even years after the pandemic. Hence why I prefer outdoor venues!

No feeling of exclusion from me @Duncan

Just stating where I am in terms of where I’m at on journey

There’s tons of festivals up in the Highlands.

The Gathering in Inverness was probably last gig/festival I was at.

Also have Belladrum on the Black Isle which is huge.

There’s also a Beer and Music in Dornoch

And up in Caithness there’s Tunes by The Dunes.

Over in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis they have HebCelt

So definitely lots of choices.

A lot of them have Scottish Trad Rock although Belladrum has a much wider range
