The Friday Forum Jukebox Club!

Oh my, had a feeling there might be these sorts of festivals up by you @DuncanB, so many cool-sounding options like Tunes by the Dunes, going to google it. I’m glad I didn’t make you feel excluded, and I hope you get back to concerts if and when you’re up for it! Something very primal for me about being amongst others all tuning in to the same music. Even live performances broadcast online can have this effect on me, strange as they’re via a screen

Hopefully in time concerts will become an option @Duncan

Online can work too.

I remember a lot of the Scottish Trad performers doing Online concerts during COVID and you could make a donation online if you were able to.

It meant that they were still getting some sort of income albeit a small amount

Aw love this @DuncanB, we’ve found similar ways to keep attending gigs. We saw Nick Cave, Anohni and Björk that way—not quite the same but good enough! So many tours were cancelled altogether and even venues closed for good during the pandemic, and now many European musicians can’t or won’t tour here for obvious reasons :ice:

There’s a Scottish band called Skerryvore who play in the US a couple of times a year @Duncan

Link to their site below. Looking like mainly Europe and UK at present tour wise

It’s a long time since I heard that, and the quality is excellent. Unremastered?

Friday Jukebox time again.

Wondering if @Spangleystar would be up for suggesting this weeks words?

Me again and so soon - oh go on then!

My focus this week has been on everything calming, as my ASCT draws closer I am utilising all my tools to maintain my positive mindset. So the two words this week are: BREATHE and BELIEVE.

But now I’m blank and can’t think of any tunes connected to those words  will come back with them later on!

Thank you @Spangleystar for the words today. I am thinking of you very much.
My songs are for BREATHE - EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE by The Police.
And for BELIEVE a song about self-belief that means a lot to me - YOU SAY by Lauren Daigle x

Oh good choices @Spangleystar, and it means I get to share a Greenday song that still makes me get quite emotional every time I listen to it…

For BREATHE, here’s Greenday’s ‘Still Breathing’ (2016). It’s a much softer vibe than a lot of their work:

And for BELIEVE, someone who I’ve seen live waaaaaay too many times now and posted a couple of weeks ago (different song though): Frank Turner, with ‘I still believe’ (2010) :

I have the fog today so it’s taken me a while, but I have a tenuous link to Fontaines DC -Starburster
Explicit content warning!

There’s a recurring throaty breath in this track incase anyone is wondering how it connects to the word
This song was inspired by the lead singer’s panic attack at Kings Cross Station and captures the chaos in the stream of consciousness lyrics. It’s also the theme tune to Mobland, which is nothing to do with breath but is my stream of consciousness thought process today :exploding_head::rofl:

My second choice is Imagine Dragons -Believer https://youtu.be/7wtfhZwyrcc?si=9FPcuI9k2j-lHkAu

I relate to so many of the lyrics in this song, life isn’t always easy, but it always teaches you things.

Happy Friday you lovely lot xx

Thank you @Erica for the links to the songs I have chosen. I really like your song choices too! Cher has an amazing voice! I remember when that song first came out. Xx

Great choices again. @Erica beat me to Cher, absolutely love that woman!

Love that Fontaines DC song too. I try to sing the breathy bits and it’s impossible. Then I saw them do it on the telly and it’s another man who does it so didn’t feel so bad haha.

For Breathe I’ve gone with an early noughties deep cut - Breathe by Blu Cantrell ft Sean Paul. Reminds me of my misspent youth.

For Believe I’ve gone with Don’t Stop Believing by Journey just cos it’s a banger really
