Hiya currently waiting for results … been told I have paraprotein of 2.2 I know this isn’t high, have lambda light chains and not sure if connected with 55% transferrin saturation (iron overload ) I have ms and had it few years was a blood test that brought this all up. I have seen a hemotogist who found a lump under my armpit and sent me for mri of pelvis and spine and a skeletal survey within week of my appt as have a tooth ache full pain in lower back have done for year thought was due to ms also I have pins and needles all over due to ms too and they asked if I suffer with it hard to tell what could be what . They have mentioned Monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS) but obviously currently looking for multiple myeloma . Can you have multiple myeloma with such a small amount of paraprotein? I’m 40 and really struggling to concentrate on life at mo just constant fear. Thank you for those taking time to read! @BloodCancerUK_Nurses or if anyone could help would be so greatful!
Hi @Emzie1984 Welcome to our forum, it sounds a confusing and fearful time for you.
I find waiting and not knowing is really scary.
What you do show so clearly is that we are all such complex medical beings.
Perhaps it is only your medical teams that can answer your questions.
However I would bow to the expertise of the Blood Cancer UK nurses.
I always write down my fears, questions and practicalities before all medical appointments and ensure they each know about all my medical conditions, medications, tests etc,
Please do let us know how you get on and be very kind and look after yourself
Hello there @Emzie1984
So sorry that you have been worried about your health and the tests that are being done. May I ask when you are next seeing the Haematologist that requested the imaging investigations? It is important that your symptoms and your past medical history are considered when investigating symptoms so I would encourage you to speak to the team that is investigating your symptoms.
This resource is helpful in understanding what GP’s and Doctors are looking for when considering either Monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS) or Myeloma: https://www.myeloma.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Myeloma-MGUS-and-Related-Conditions-A-Guide-for-GPs.pdf
It sounds like you are waiting for results and with these results the Haematology will be ruling out what may be the cause. I can appreciate how anxiety provoking this is for you but do be reassured that you having the tests that are indicated by your symptoms.
Do give us a call if that is helpful:
