The Walk of Light 2025 is open for you to sign up to if you’re interested in taking part this year. We’ve had some great chats and photos on the forum previously when people here have decided to take part, so we wanted to let our community know about it again this year.
For anyone who isn’t aware of it, this is an annual fundraising event for Blood Cancer UK. You can join thousands of people across the country as we walk together on 29th March 2025 to fund vital blood cancer research. As the sun sets, we walk in memory of our loved ones. We walk to shine a ray of hope for someone as they face their darkest moments. We walk to light the path for a brighter future.
It’s free to take part, and you can join as a group or by yourself. You can choose your location, your route and how far you want to walk. If you’re interested, you can find out more and sign up here: Walk of Light 2025 charity walk | Blood Cancer UK
There is also a Facebook/ Meta group for supporters taking part, which isn’t essential if you’re not on social media, but is a place you can connect with others taking part Walk of Light | Facebook
If you are taking part, we’d love to hear more about it. What made you decide to take part? Are you walking with anyone? Please do feel free to share your stories below
I just wanted to also share Rob’s story about taking part…
Rob took on his own Walk of Light in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, in memory of his best friend Dimitri who sadly died from leukaemia and in support of his dad who is recovering in remission from blood cancer (diffuse large B cell lymphoma).
“Witnessing my own dad in treatment for an aggressive blood cancer threw our lives into turmoil. I’ve been fortunate to experience the ground-breaking treatment that kept my dad alive, so I know the difference that your money can make.”
Rob, a coach at St Ives Rangers, encouraged members of their footballing community to join them, also walking in memory of another young dad involved in St Ives Rangers who had sadly died from blood cancer.
Rob’s family (including his dad!), his friends and the football team raised over £2,500 for vital blood cancer research and can’t wait to take part again in 2025.
Hi- I have just signed up to take part in the walk of light with Horsham blood cancer group- I believe we’re walking around the Warnham area on March 29th.
I was only diagnosed with Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and Essential thrombocythemia (ET) last spring and I feel this is a great way to fundraise for Blood Cancer UK by involving more people and spreading the awareness for this cancer. I’ve found that people have heard of leukaemia but not of many other of the blood cancers.
It’s fantastic to hear that you’ve signed up and it will be great to raise awareness in your area.
I’ve found the same personally about people not having heard of blood cancers beyond leukaemia and certainly not understanding the lesser known ones are also a blood cancer. Anything we can all do to change that is a good thing.
Lots and lots of luck to you on doing it - are you a walker usually or will this be a new thing for you for 2025?
Yes I have dogs so do walk. Evenings are my lowest energy time though so that will be a challenge- I’m normally ensconced in my armchair in front of the fire with my feet up!!!
This was us on Saturday night stopping for a refreshment. Weather held for us thankfully, was a great wee night. Maybe one day we will have a cure I’m 18 months post stem cell transplant and currently on Lenolidamide for maintenance and doing well. Best wishes to you all xx
Hi @Bigaly welcome to posting on our forum and what a great picture of you all on Saturday night. What a Walk of Light fundraiser.
I look forward to hearing more about you on the forum.
What a fantastic picture @Bigaly - thanks so much for sharing. The lights look great and I’m glad to hear the weather held. It’s also good to hear that you’re doing well on your current treatment. A big welcome to the forum
Hi @Ali_BloodCancerUK - it went very well thank you ! I hadn’t realised that Horsham blood cancer group weren’t going to put on a walk this year but when they heard I wanted to do it they got it all organised- a beautiful walk around Warnham park and great hospitality. About 10 of my friends came as well and it was a beautiful evening. Felt tired afterwards though but very pleased with the amount I raised.
Fantastic that they got together and organised it It sounds lovely. Understandable that you felt tired after - hope you’ve been able to rest up well since - an amazing achievement. Thanks for sharing
