My daughters has just turned 2. We noticed an enlarged lymph node in her neck around the time she had chicken pox. After a few weeks it was still there so went to GP who said she had multiple in her neck but this was normal if she had been unwell. We had a check up 3 weeks later, still no change but we were advised this was normal and nothing to worry about and they would go down in their own time.
Since then shes had tonsillitis and had to go to a + e as we couldnt controll her temperature. Shes also had multiple colds etc. 5 month later and her lymph nodes are still swollen but they have not increased in size.
We took her back to the gp, a different doctor saw us who seemed quite concerned and asked us to take her for a blood test. The results took 2 weeks to come back which was a horrible wait and we called every day! I was told her white blood cell and platelets are elevated. They havent told me how much they are elevated just that they want to re test bloods in 4 weeks time. Other levels were normal.
Im so scared! Ive since noticed more lymph nodes above her collar bone - im not sure if they have been there the whole time or not.
She doesnt have any bruising, or major night sweats. All my children seem to get a bit sweaty at night. Shes quite small in height and dropped growth lines but her weight is on track and she has always been quite petite so ive never thought much of that. Shes recently become quite constipated so ive asked for an appointment for that too in which il press for more details about her bloods. Just worried and venting really. Im hoping shes okay and just fighting some kind of infection rather than cancer. Its such a worrying time and i feel awful for not taking her back to the Gp sooner.
Unicorn sorry to hear about your concerns for your little one. It’s hard when they are small and not always able to explain how they feel. I hope you get answers soon. Remember to look after yourself also. Warm wishes Liz59
Oh @Unicorn your concern as a parent really comes from your post and I am so glad that you have found us.
It is so difficult with such generic symptoms.
It really sound to me, I am not a medical person, that you and your medical people have taken the right actions, at the right time, all the way along.
We are here for worry and venting so please do.
I think that the waiting and not knowing are horrible feelings. I have found that there is a lot of that where tests are concerned
I find it useful to keep a diary of events, medications and your fears, questions and practicalities so I can be prepared at a medical appointment.
The Blood Cancer UK support line is also there for you on 0808 2080 888
Please do let us know how you and your daughter get on and be ever so kind to yourself.
Hi @Unicorn.
I know how worrying it is as a parent and all through my girls growing up I always questionned if I was doing things right but as @Erica has said, its sounds to me like you have have done the right thing all along.
Waiting is horrible isnt it and our mind always goes to the worst case scenario but as you say, it could be an infection.
If you are concerned before the 4 week check just give your GP a call. Note down any chnges in symptoms etc as this can be really helpful.
Please keep us updated on how you are doing x
