Analysing personal blood tests

Can any one help me clarify the best signs of a good immunity from a blood test? Then, following, the best department from which to try to receive a copy of your own, latest, personal, blood test!?

Hi @Dorothy a great big welcome to our forum.
My general rule of thumb is I ask the GP, the CNS (Clinical Nurse Specialist) or consultant, if it is NHS, if done privately, but whoever ordered the test.
Obviously it depends what blood tests we are talking about, but that is too technical for me, and there are also private services, at cost, offering different services, I have not gone down that route.
We cannot comment on someone’s personal blood test results on here.
I will copy your post to the Blood Cancer UK nurse advisors in case they can add something. @BloodCancerUK_Nurses
I look forward to hearing more about you and I suspect there is a reason for this question.

Hi @Dorothy,
A very warm welcome to our forum. I do hope you are keeping okay today?
You’ve asked a good question & ultimately the answer is yes. Our blood results from specific tests can help indicate how well our immune system in functioning. However it is never an exact science and it can be very complex.
May i ask if this is something you are worried about in relation to a blood cancer diagnosis at all?

I ask Dorothy, as the blood tests required for understanding our immunity can vary depending on what the main concern is.

A full blood count is a likely initial test however again depending on your concerns a doctor may also wish to take samples to look at immunoglobulins (antibodies in the blood ) & other blood values which help to give doctors important information about the immune system.

Often a good place to start should you have any worries about your levels of immunity, is to talk with your medical team and or your GP. they will be able to offer support & run any tests where appropriate. At this stage you can request a copy of your blood results and also if further specialism is needed then your GP can also help with this.

Should you wish to talk anything through Dorothy, please do know our support team are on hand 7 days a week- 0808 2080 888.

Best Wishes, Lauran
