I have recently rejoined my local gym which has made a big difference mentally and physically. Don’t mean to ask a stupid question but is there some things you should be careful of doing? can raising your heart rate cause things to spread around your body?
Hi @Mike_69 it is certainly not a stupid question, you have a logical mind like I do.
This is a very personal reply, perhaps check with your specialist nurse or medical team for medical questions.
I really believe in fresh air and exercise and Pilates for core strength etc.
I also find it helps me mentally.
I have built up my walking over a period of time and try and raise my heart rate sometimes, but I had been looking at it from a different angle as I have a leaky aortic valve and I have wanted to keep my heart muscles working and from experience and had heard that muscles like to be worked.
I also follow the old sayings ‘slow and steady wins the race’ and ‘use it or loose it’
I await others thoughts.
It hasn’t seemed to have altered my Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) bloods, but as I said before this is a non medical reply.
Hi Mike_69, I understand that exercise is one of the best things we can do for our Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). I found the videos on the Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) support site really helpful in grasping this. This is a good one, it helped me understand the positive effects of exercising on our Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) cells.
Hi @Mike_69
Whether you’re living with or after blood cancer:
-
Being active is safe – Just let your doctor or nurse know about your plans.
-
It’s good for you – Being active improves your fitness and strength. It can help you recover from treatment, reduce fatigue (Fatigue | Blood Cancer UK) and boost your mood and well-being (Blood cancer: mind and emotions | Blood Cancer UK).
-
Anyone can get more active– You don’t have to go running or do high intensity workouts. Walking, gardening and DIY all count.
I personally found yoga during my treatment and it’s been my go to ever since . It literally keeps me going , boosts my mood my energy and keeps my stiff joints moving. I was once super fit and could complete a triathlon I think it’s just about adapting to the new you.
