so I have had high blood platlets for 5 years, I am on a wait and see, [no treatment] and now they have started to drop? why would that be???
Hi @felix and welcome to the forum.
It is always a worrying time when you see changes isn’t it.
They may be lots or reasons why things have changed. I would suggest the best people to discuss this with is your medical team. Do you have an appointment coming up or a clinical nurse specialist you could contact?
I have also copied in the @BloodCancerUK_Nurses as they will know more than me.
Please take care and keep us updated, and look after yourself
Hi @ a great big welcome to our forum.
A very good question and perhaps one best asked of your medical team as we are all complex beings with individual medical histories.
I am also on watch and wait (active monitoring) and my platelets do fluctuate, but that is different to starting to to drop.
Others may be able you share their experiences.
Please do let us know what your GP, specialist nurse or consultant says and really look after yourself
Dear @felix
Thank you for posting and welcome to the forum.
May I ask whether you have a blood cancer diagnosis or are you being monitored for the elevated platelet count only?
Blood counts can vary and fluctuate but I presume from your post that this drop has been consistent? Blood counts can also vary if you’ve had a bacterial or viral infection, have you been unwell of late?
I would agree with @Nichola75 and @Erica in that you should contact the health care professional that requests your blood tests and ask for their opinion.
If you do want to discuss this further please do get in touch: Blood cancer information and support by phone and email | Blood Cancer UK
Kind regards
Gemma
No cancer, but they said DNM3TA found at low level on genetics, mutation indicates possibility of clonal haematopiesis. when I asked him what this was,?I was told not to worry? I just need answers but not getting anywhere?
Hello @felix
Where you told this by a Haematologist?
I would suggest asking again and in particular the relevance of any changes with the platelet count as you deserve to be reassured as to why you are having these tests. Of course, you are entitled to a second opinion if you are not satisfied with the care of communication that you are experiencing and this can be requested by your GP.
So sorry that you are not getting anywhere with this.
Take care
Gemma
yep was told by my Haematologist, Have asked him to explain and all I get is lets wait and see.Spoke to my GP and he was not much help.
