I’m here with my make up on feeling quite nice ready to go out. I just wondered if anyone knew about the Macmillan/Boots makeover service? I went along as I have massive bags now, break outs, my skin has just changed. She chatted easily about cancer, asked me what I wanted and gave me a new look. It was a really fun half an hour and there is no obligation to buy, though I did. I can’t remember where I found it but if you go to the Boots website you should find it. They are all Macmillan trained so understand the sorts of issues.
Is it look good feel good
I attended one back in 2017 and really enjoyed it and great tips too

Gosh @jojax this sounds a brilliant service, just what we all need, I bet you felt so much better for it and that it has given you a boost emotionally as well.
Go out holding your head up high and do something lovely, you deserve it, we all do.
Look after yourself
That’s such a good service. I’d never heard about it so thanks for sharing. Enjoy your night x
Hi @jojax
Yes it is great service. I went to one during my chemo at my local [Maggie's Wirral | Maggie's]
During lockdown I helped out as a volunteer tester whilst they tested out offering the service on line so they could continue to offer advice only without the face to face and the products.
I am really glad to hear it is back being available face to face . Lots of big brands Boots being one the main ones donate the products and they also offer sessions for men.
It was excellent for learning how to draw on eyebrows and eyelashes and meeting others in the same situation.
Thanks for sharing your positive experience.
Jules:)
Hi @jojax
Thank you for sharing this I was totally unaware of this & im so glad that you enjoyed the experience & too talk at ease with the beauty consultant. We all have times when we could really do with a pick me up & what better way to do it getting a mini makeover. I hope you enjoy your products.
Something else which is good to know is that Marks and Spencer will provide a personal shopper if you are feeling overwhelmed about getting out and about after treatment. You contact the store and they can book you in. There is no obligation to buy anything of course.
I found this after my first year of treatment when I woke up feeling positive and decided to replace some trousers I had worn to death. I made it to M & S and found some clothes to try on but the effort of changing and I know not what, left me in tears in the changing room. It was overwhelming. The lady in the changing rooms called another member of staff to cover her and sat with me and was great. She reassured me that it was not the least unusual and explained the service they could provide. It was not like me at all which somehow made it worse.
The silver lining is that I could not choose between trousers and bought three new pairs all of which I love!
Hello @GrandmaJo
Thank you for sharing this experience you had with M&S. Things can be very overwhelming & tears often flow. I know mine do. How lovely to hear that you had such a good experience in your store with whom was obviously a very lovely supportive lady. I’m so happy to hear that you treated yourself to not only one but three new pairs of trousers. Good on you. Please continue to look after yourself & I hope you are doing well. Warm wishes
I had a lovely experience at M&S back in 2018 I had lost a lot of weight through chemo and needed new bras
I was treated with kindness and measured up and a gorgeous array of new bras brought to me and all taken at my pace
The lady was interested in what I had been through and I was happy to chat to her
I came away with my haul too
It’s a shame these aren’t advertised that well as it would benefit a lot of people wouldn’t it.
It sounds wonderful, but sadly no use to those of us who are still shielding
