Hi@Gilly1712,good morning I am sorry to hear of your symptoms and that you cant get an appointment for 2 weeks.
If I was having uncomfortable symptoms as you describe I would be calling my Drs surgery till i got at least a call back
.You could always call the Haematologist but I think they may say to speak to your GP .
I think calling the BCUK suppport line for advice. It may be that your bloods have changed but it may be a virus?
I get jumpy eyes as I get vertigo.
I hope you can try again for an earlier appointment.
Take care
Thank you. I have tried the doctors and told I need to try ring again Monday morning.
@Gilly1712 I was looking at your symptoms again ,the jumpy eyes could be causing your vertigo, nausea and bowel changes.
I get that with my vertigo and have medication to settle it till it passes.
.It is horrible so I sympathise. If it gets worse can you try 111 .
I would still ring again but its difficult ,can you ask at the Chemist he may be able to help with your symptoms,my Chemist is very helpful .
Good luck and take care
Hi @Gilly1712, thank you for posting. I’m so sorry to see you’re feeling poorly. As has been mentioned, you’d certainly be welcome to ring our support line if you’d like to talk things through (0808 2080 888).
I’m sorry that it’s been tough to get an appointment at your GP surgery. This must be understandably difficult for you when you’re feeling poorly. May I ask whether you’ve shared this with the Practice Manager at all? They may be able to help you. I’d encourage you to speak with your haematology team as well, if you can, in case they’re able to offer you any advice.
As @Bannanacake has mentioned if you’re feeling very unwell please don’t hesitate to reach out to 111.
We are here for you if we can help at all.
Best wishes,
Tanya.
Hi @Gilly1712,
So sorry to hear about your symptoms and that you are having a problem getting a GP appointment.
You could try ringing the doctors again and ask if you can speak to the duty doctor. All GP surgeries should have one. Another option is to try NHS111, who can book you in for a GP appointment if they access that you need to be seen quickly. Another option is visiting a NHS Urgent Care Centre if there one nearby.
My GP surgery has some appointments bookable online, with appointments released at 7:45 am each morning . Usually all booked within seconds! However, it pays to check throughout the day to pick up cancellations.
I wish you the very best of luck and in the meantime try not to worry.
Helen
Hi @Gilly1712 . I’m so sorry that you are feeling poorly. It’s so frustrating when you cant get an appointment. Everybody has given really good advice. Please keep us updated on how you get on x
Hi @Gilly1712,
Thank you for posting about ‘jumping eyes’. I wasn’t sure what you meant by this, so I googled it. I get this from time to time, but thought it was Bells Palsy (I knew someone who had that), but now I know it could be something else. Next time it happens I shall try and video it and make a GP appointment.
Thank you.
Helen
Hi Gilly is there any way you can get to a walk in centre…you shouldn’t be waiting all weekend to get sorted
Maybe ring 111 and they are good at finding a local walk in centre …obviously thats if you have someone who can take you.
Hope you get some help.
How are you feeling @Gilly1712 ?
Hi,
Just had a bit of a shock today and wondering what it might mean. The results of a Dexa scan came through and it says I have osteoporosis. Should I notify my haematologist?
Helen
Hi,
I must admit I tell my Consultant Haemotologist everything health related and as the bone marrow is the home of blood production I certainly would.
Having broken my thigh just before my treatment for NHL Waldenstroms I am aware of Osteopenia/Osteoporosis and the need to be aware of what weaknesses may develop be that bone effecting marrow or vice versa.
I’m me, we’re all different but I believe in information transfer adds to a Doctors abilities to manage our conditions.
Hope all goes well.
Hello @helenfwallace. I am so sorry you have had this shocking news. As a non medical person who also has a diagnosis of osteoporosis and a blood cancer (myelofibrosis) I would highly recommend you letting your haematologist know. In my case my bone marrow is scarred and this, together with my low bone density, makes things a bit more complicated. For example I have had various stress fractures in my feet which I have been told are the result of the combination of osteoporosis with myelofibrosis. On a more positive note there are many new and effective treatments for osteoporosis these days so that’s another reason for your haematologist and osteoporosis specialist to work together. Thinking of you very much. Having a blood cancer is more than enough so to be told you have something else that you weren’t expecting is tough. Be kind to yourself. Warm wishes. Willow X
Thankyou @Willow and
@Iian, I have now shared with my haematology and rheumatology consultants.
Apologies, this reply has got split in two (clumsy fingers!!!)
Helen
Hi @helenfwallace I am glad you have notified your haematologist and rheumatologist as @Iain and @Willow say.
I also have osteoporosis and scoliosis and pre Covid had 3 yearly Dexa scans and x rays.
I always ensure I tell each consultant of my other conditions, treatments and medications, even the dentist and optician etc. every time I see them.
As @Willow says having blood cancer is more than enough, thank you, but there are lots of treatments out there that I have had over the years.
I expect you are in shock so as @Willow says be ever so kind to yourself.
Thank you @Erica. I have scoliosis too! And yes, I am shocked, but may I shouldn’t be surprised as my calcium levels have been borderline high over the last couple of years.
Best wishes
Helen
Hi,
I am now even more upset. I also had some blood tests this week because I have been having problems with cramping and some bleeding issue. A GP reviewed my Vitamin D result and issued a prescription for calciferol without discussiin with me. The only communication I was a text message saying “we have reviewed your test results and sent a precription to your preferred chemist please take as per instructions”! Steam coming out of my ears!
Helen
Oh @helenfwallace sorry to hear that steam is coming out of your ears.
Please do be pleasantly assertive and persistent to get an appointment to discuss your symptoms, test results and way forward and get all your questions answered.
Please do let us know how you get on and take lots of special care of yourself
That’s very frustrating @helenfwallace! I hope you’re ok and treating yourself to something nice tonight. Please keep us updated X
I have now seen a GP, who ran some more blood tests to rule out secondary causes. He thought the problem might lie with the parathyroid, but thankfully this appears not to be the case. I awaiting on the results of the ceoliac screen, but if this is negative, the proposal is to start me on alendronic acid. I am quite anxious about this because I also have reflux and a hiatus hernia.
