Hi @johnson a great big welcome and the million dollar question (literally !!)
I certainly cannot better @Nichola75 response to you.
I believe the Which magazine has given information in the past too.
Unfortunately insurance companies base their prices on the perceived risk of a claim and they don’t like compromised immune systems.
I look forward to hearing more about you and your upcoming trip.
Welcome to the community @johnson and thank you for creating this thread! We have an older thread on this too just in case it can be helpful for you at all, Travel tips and travel insurance - do you have any tips to share? - Living with and after blood cancer - Blood Cancer UK Forum
It’s good to hear your husband is in remission! How are you both doing?
Dear Erica and Nicola ,
Well yes I did book insurance ! I was amazoed how expensive Al clear was over £1,600
But in the end I boozed thru the below
That’s for 2 week trips in the states for my husband ( with lymphoma) amd myself amd with Covid cancellation cover .
I will let you know how we got on ! That quote was from being in remission come April 2022 over 5 years ……
All the best
Elise. Johnson
Thought you’d had to drink your way through it because it was so high
Oh @johnson I would have boozed through I think !!!
Thanks for the info, look after yourselves and enjoy NY at the end of April, something to look forward to.
Hi there, has anyone managed to get travel insurance whilst still going through treatment? I am trying to get a uk only policy but struggling to get cover for a few days away. To be honest its more to cover us if somebody gets covid and we cant go as all our treatment dates are set out. thanks
I await others handy hints
Have you tried StaySure?
Hi I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia last year have been through the treatment and had a stem cell transplant in October. I booked a holiday for August with the family in Majorca. I used Insurancewith. Asked loads of questions and I bought a family policy for the year as better value than doing the trip duration.
Yeah i phoned staysure and after over an hour on the phone they said they couldnt insure us. Couldnt give reason but said probably because my husband is still receiving treatment…
thanks Muzza, I will try them. It might be because husband is still receiving treatment
Insurancewith have a website it’s fairly straightforward and the questions are automatically asked depending on what answers you give. Easier than the phone
Welcome to the forum @Muzza. How are things with you?
I’m good thank you. Enjoying a normal life now after a pretty terrible time between March 21 and November.
Hi @Muzza and welcome to our forum, what a time to be diagnosed and treated, Covid times must have made it so much more difficult emotionally and practically.
You are now part of our forum family and I look forward to hearing more about you.
Look after yourself
I’ll echo Muzza’s recommendation: InsuranceWith. I’ve used them in recent months for 2 weeks in Barbados, a week in the USA and a few days in Croatia, and each individual policy has been surprisingly cheap. That said, I’ve not had to actually make a claim so I don’t know what they’re like for that, but then travel insurance is as much for reassurance as anything.
Hi there, I recently got an annual quote for me and my partner, using Staysure. I disclosed that I have ET, and their inclusive quote was better than my travel agent’s. I didn’t have any treatment dates to avoid though. Make sure you have full covid cancellation cover irrespective of who you use! Best of luck!

Why would you need a UK only one as unless you where being privately treated you could just ring the hospital and explain the situation and they’d reschedule it?I don’t know how it would work will private outfits like BUPA,etc? As for international travel it’s very hard to get travel insurance, and expensive if you do manage it,if you have some form of active cancer however some of them do policies whereby the cancer is excluded but unrelated medical issues covered for example if you broke your arm.It sounds good on paper but I’d imagine if you where to claim it might be challenging proving one medical issue is unconnected to another.I suppose it’d be best to take out one against theft and leave the medical part?
