Managed to get a quote from insure with, the lady that owns the business had breast cancer. Cost 20 for a week, my previous cheapest quote was 280. I can’t recommend highly enough.

Some good resources if others are struggling to find insurance -

Maggie’s also have a section on money, work & travel which has lots of useful information and resources, including this information document on travel insurances, which lists companies and useful places to look for insurance.

Cancer Research UK also have a list of organisations and specialists in insuring those living with cancer.

And this is a link to the finances section of Macmillan’s website which discusses travel insurance and has links to lots of useful information, and makes good suggestions of where to find more resources if needed.

They also have a section on their forum here where those with cancer (not blood cancer specifically) share their experiences of gaining insurance and there are lots of suggestions of reasonable quotes from companies & they have also recently reviewed their booklet on travel and holidays with or after cancer.

Hi Phil, contact World First. I had insurance quotes as expensive as our holiday but they insured us for £70ish pounds!

Thanks to all who have made suggestions. I’ve been blithely using Saga, without realising they were getting very expensive. But having looked at the insurewith site, it’s a pain to fill in! Hope it will be worth the effort.

Ah. Just plodded my way through the insurewith system, and got EXACTLY the same quote as I got from Saga (and used) a month ago. Lot more work (took best part of half hour) for nil gain. Oh well, we live and learn.

We had 2 threads about travel insurance, so I’ve merged them and I hope that means its easier for those looking for the topic to find it!

If you have any advice or suggestions, or questions, around travel insurance then this is the place to do it!

Hi all. I’ll just add my experience of searching for travel insurance. I had a SCT for AML over four years ago now. I have thankfully made a good recovery, apart from developing significant osteoporosis secondary to the treatment I received. And unfortunately I fractured a vertebrae, nearly four years ago. So maybe seen as high risk. I have used InsureWith for European holidays, where the cost was reasonable. However I have booked a ā€˜big’ holiday for later this year and InsureWith were unable to help because of the overall cost.
After chasing several companies who all quoted ridiculous prices I came across Holidaysafe who have quoted almost Ā£600 less than the next cheapest. I was staggered… and delighted! The company gets good customer reviews online. So do consider them if you’re looking for that elusive decent quote. Good luck.

I’m wondering if anyone has any up to date comments about travel insurance?

Insurewith (mentioned a lot) are not doing any new policies at the moment.

I used Boots Travel Insurance before as they were good value for someone like me (on Watch and Wait) - but they have stopped doing new policies too!

Anyone found any other providers I could check out?

Hi, not sure what age you are but i have gone with saga as i am just 9ver 50. Being on watch and watch is still expensive insurance. A lot of insurance companies didnt want to touch me even tho no treatment. It cost me 500 for 2 weeks un thailand which i now wont be going as in red zone. I give up with holidays at the moment.

Yes, @Mandi713 and @Stuart I believe it is still very expensive to get travel insurance (if it is being offered) even though we might be on watch and wait.
It’s the compromised immune system that means we might be more susceptible to infections, food poisoning etc. not just the blood cancer, I think, this is a personal opinion though.
Please let us know how you get on @Stuart

Thanks @Erica and @Mandi713 I’m 45 so cannot access Saga yet unfortunately.

Sorry to hear your Thailand trip can’t happen. It is frustrating. We are booking for next year so hoping that’s safer.

Hi @johnson and welcome to the forum. I hated having to sort out insurance. The two I previously used are not operating anymore. I called Macmillan who provided me with some numbers if recommended companies. Might be worth a try? Lymphoma Action were helpful as well. I’ll have a look for some links and post back if I find them.
How are you keeping? Look forward to hearing more from you on the forum?
