Travelling abroad

I’ve been in imatinib for 3 months now and everything is going well. Had 2 weeks off when I became neutropenic, but now back on the medication and all ok. Having weekly blood tests at present.
When would I be able to go on holiday abroad again? Do I have to wait till I’m in remission? Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi @pammy I think that is a good question for your specialist nurse or medical team as we are all very unique patients with our own medical histories.
The other thing to consider is getting medical insurance and it’s cost.
I attach the link to travel insurance on the Blood Cancer UK website

Hi @pammy - welcome to our forum. I’m glad to hear that everything is going well

As @Erica says it is worth consulting with your care team as they know your circumstances best. However, I’m happy to share my experience. I’ve been living with Chronic myeloid leukaemia for 13 years and was on imatinib initially. For me, I was able to go abroad once my results had stabilised and I required less frequent blood tests / check-ups after initial diagnosis. Once I was ready for monthly check-ups I was good to go, but I spoke with my team and let them know my plans just to double check I had the greenlight.

I hope you are planning to go somewhere nice

Take care,
Maggie
