Vaccine: bumped up the queue!

Hi @Bobby. I’m so glad you are back on the list. It’s so hard getting through this lockdown without having a tug of war with your GP. Your story really shows the value of the forum and what a wonderful, supportive and informative place it is for is all. How are you doing at the moment?

@Bobby I am so glad that Blood Cancer UK actually gave you the evidence you needed and you had the strength to go back to your GP with it and you are back on the Clinically Extremely Vulnerable list.
I have heard that the amount of time medical people have in their training on blood cancers is very small, I know I was the only person at my last surgery with a blood cancer.
Yes, we all inform and support each other on this forum and website, please keep posting @Bobby.
Has anyone else had the same problems?

That’s good to hear @Bobby . It must have been a very distressing time for you but hopefully things will settle down now.

Hello All,
I had my vaccination 2:30pm & had temperature & rigours by 1:30am. Popped a couple of paracetamol & went back to sleep. Felt like a wet rag all next day. However, woke up next day bright as a button. It was the AstraZeneca Oxford jab.

Glad you are feeling better now - phew!

Hi everyone

I was diagnosed last summer, although have no symptoms.

I haven’t yet been invited to have the jab, so I’m wondering if it’s because I’m at the watch and wait stage, so am not classed as extremely vulnerable.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Sounds scary @Corfu80, but I am glad your side effects have ceased and that you are now as bright as a button.

Hi @JackieSouthWales, if you have been diagnosed with a blood cancer then being on watch and wait should be irrelevant, I am on watch and wait and have been called. It might be worth checking the Blood Cancer UK website and printing off a document that can be shown to your GP and/or you can also talk to the Support Services Team on 0808 2080 888 (10am-7pm Monday-Friday, and 10am-1pm Saturday and Sunday) or via email at support@bloodcancer.org.uk
Take care and stay safe.

Hi @JackieSouthWales. Erica gave great advice. I would definitely call the gp and chase it up. I’m also on watch and wait. Are you on the shielding list? Let us know how you get on.

Hi @Erica and @Nichola75, thank you both for your advice.

@Nichola75, yes I am on the shielding list.

I’ll call my GP again this morning and let you know what she says.

Thank you!

Hi all

I spoke to my medical practice this morning and they informed me that I’m on the ‘next cohort’ list. So all good! :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks again

Hi @JackieSouthWales, so all is good sounds good to me !!!
Has anyone found that just making a call has given them the result they wanted?

When I spoke to them yesterday, they said they didn’t know.

But when I said today I’d been given advice through the Forum, they immediately investigated and came back with the right answer!

So thanks for your heft!

Hi, I’ve just come on here to see how everyone is getting on with getting their vaccinations because my husband and I seem to be fighting a losing battle with getting him his vaccination. He has lymphoma and had a letter back in March saying he is on the ext vulnerable list, and each time there’s been a lockdown, his employer has told him to shield. But so far there’s been no phonecall with an appointment to vaccinate. Its so frustrating. He has phoned the surgery twice this week and been told that they would pass his details on to the people that organise the vaccinations but we are still waiting. As soon as the lockdown is over, I expect he’ll be told to go back to work so its worrying. We keep seeing posts on facebook of friends who are in their 60’s saying they’ve had the vaccination. It seems so unfair. Other than keep phoning, its difficult to know what to do. We don’t seem to be getting anywhere. I can see a lot of you have had the vaccination and some are still waiting. I just wonder if anyone has any advice for us. Other than going to the surgery and standing there and refusing to move until they give my husband an appointment, I don’t know what else to do.

Hi @Mandypandy have you tried https://www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or call 119 between 7am -11pm 7 days a week. I expect you might need your nhs number to hand.

@Mandypandy. Definitely follow Erica’s advice. This must be so stressful. Please let us know how you get on tomorrow X

Thank you @Erica and @Nichola75 . John has tried registering online for a vaccination and it wouldn’t let him. He hasn’t phoned 119 yet as he thought it would be better to phone his doctors surgery, but they seem to be fobbing him off. He said he will try phoning 119 and see if he can get any better news. When he phoned the surgery, they said because we live in an area where there is a high population of older people, they have a lot to still vaccinate but on their facebook page, they are reporting that they are moving on to the next lot of vaccinations so its conflicting news. I’ll let you know if we hear anything soon. I just feel the way the vaccinations are being rolled out is so stressful. It does seem like a postcode lottery at the moment and the government are patting themselves on the back for meeting their targets but the reality is that those targets haven’t been met everywhere yet.

How frustrating!!! Is it worth giving the support line a ring for some advice?

Thank you @Nichola75 - but no need now - the surgery has just phoned - John is having his vaccination tomorrow!!! We are so relieved. The receptionist said that our surgery is way behind all the other surgeries around here for some reason. But at least John is having his now. Thank you for all your support.
