3rd vaccine issues

congratulations @Lababe . Mine is booked for tomorrow but until it is in my arm i will not believe it. GP has assured me it will be logged as 3rd primary but will see if that happens.

Please let us know how you get on tomorrow @Chrispy Look after yourself.

Well i have now had the 3rd jab but like everyone else it has had to be recorded as a booster as the nhs system can’t cope with it. It was confirmed that in 180 days i would get an invite for the booster . That was at the GP surgery.
So far just a slightly tender arm and feeling tired. So Glad to have had it.

My GP says I’m not eligible despite having lymphoma, my consultant at the hospital has told me the booster is the same as the vaccine and cannot understand why I’m asking as I’ll get the booster soon. I give up, I have no where to go with this now, I’ve been pestering everyone about it but no one seems to be listening!

@Kerrie you might find our blog here helpful - What should you do if you have blood cancer and cannot get a third Covid vaccine dose? | Blood Cancer UK We’d encourage you to take a look as you might find it helpful in your conversations with your GP.

It also explains: " If you are struggling to get your third dose but are invited for a booster dose (which may be happen if you’re over 50 or have another health condition), you should take it, as long as you are offered Pfizer. This is because a Pfizer booster dose is exactly the same thing as a third dose, and so the important thing is to get it as quickly as possible.

  • If you are invited for a booster dose and are offered Moderna, you should NOT get that instead of your third dose . This is because when Moderna is given as a booster dose, there is less of the vaccine in the vial than when it is given as a third primary dose for the immunocompromised. We have been told that Moderna is not being used for booster doses at the moment so it should not an issue at the moment, but we expect the NHS to start using them for booster doses in the next few weeks, at which point it will become an issue.
  • You can book a booster if you are over 50 or have another health condition at the NHS vaccine website."

Good up to date information on Myeloproliferative Neoplasm Voice about 3rd vaccine plus a letter to send to your GP. Good general advice for the immuno compromised.

It’s good to see some people are getting their 3rd dose. Unfortunately in my area they have no date for them but have at least acknowledged I’m on the list. I’ve written to the media and contacted everyone who I think should be able to help but to no avail. So frustrating, time taking and upsetting. Finding it hard to be gracious about people around getting boosters before we get our 3rd jab and just desperate to get back to a more normal life.

Oh @MountainGirl I know the feeling about finding it hard to be gracious with this post code lottery and it is even worse when non vulnerable people say to me ‘I have had my vaccination, haven’t you had yours yet’.
I am glad to have this forum to have a good old moan on sometimes !!

Despite spending 15 minutes at the doctor’s surgery yesterday trying to convince people that I need the third dose and with my consultant having emailed them, I was sent away after being told they don’t get involved with vaccination appointments and I should phone 119 or turn up at the non medical walk in vaccination centre. Aaargh! I phoned 119 and eventually someone hung up on me before I could speak to anyone. It’s like bashing my head against a brick wall. I can’t turn up for a full strength booster and sort out the problem later because it hasn’t been 6 months since my last jab; I had to wait a very long time for that too as my GP hadn’t listed me as extremely vulnerable. I’m running out of energy to pursue this……

Had my third jab (or booster) on Sunday, had a bad day yesterday every bone in my body ached, woke up today as fresh as a daisy so could have been a reaction. As I am still in treatment is it a waste of time, will treatment remove antibodies again, I don’t know does anyone else??

Oh @LesleyL welcome and as you can see you are not the only person having trouble with vaccines.
As you say you are running out of energy to pursue this, I certainly know that one, suddenly it gets all too much and my fatigue sets in. I do not deal with what personally stresses me well.
If you would like to speak to someone at Blood Cancer UK their support line details are above.
The main thing is that you look after yourself (and I realise you are going to say is part of that is getting your vaccine).
Please keep posting how you are getting on.

Oh, @Mickbrit I think that is a very good question for your medical team because they know your medical history and treatment.
Please let us know how you get on.

Hi there, Kerrie and everyone!!
This was exactly my experience. In a routine phone consultation with consultant and a follow up conversation with specialist nurse at the hospital I was told there’s no difference between booster and 3rd dose (this was in early September when the first letter/announcement had been made by JCVI and Health Sec.).
Having the time, inclination and an interest in understanding what was happening, I contacted by GP who initially said the same. I also trawled the Government, BBC News and NHS England websites for information.
I sent another message to GP and was called by the Practice Admin. who manages the vaccine programme. She was keen to follow up what I’d found ie the letters from JCVI/blood cancer UK etc. She thanked me and said they would review their plans to separate those eligible for 3rd dose from those waiting for a booster. She advised me to wait until the GP appointments were available, my dose would be noted as ‘third dose’, not booster and I’d also be invited for 'flu vaccine. Yesterday I went for my Covid vaccine, 3rd dose. The Doctor at the vaccine centre confirmed my eligibility, and thanked me for taking a copy of the most recent letter (dated 30 September). My 'flu jab is booked for Saturday.
The original JCVI guidance along with list of eligible people is here: Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advice on third primary dose vaccination - GOV.UK
The most recent letter, dated 30 September, is buried deep on the NHS England site: https://www.england.nhs.uk/coronavirus/wp-content/uploads/sites/52/2021/09/C1427-covid-19-vacc-assuring-implementation-of-jcvi-guidance-vaccinating-severely-immunosuppressed-individuals.pdf
If you look at the top level page for the vaccination programme, it’s hardly surprising that busy people in GP practices etc., don’t have time to wade through all this!!

Thankyou, again, Blood Cancer UK for supporting us all through this!
Keep smiling,

I had my flu jab yesterday, I printed the letter from the Blood Cancer UK site, and showed it to the doctor. Received the 3rd jab, no arguing :+1:t2:

Morning all

Success! Got my 3rd primary dose last night. They were all for sending me away though as it isn’t six months after my second one!
Luckily I had the email my GP had sent to them on my phone booking me in with them! They then produced a form think it was called an SPD which they needed to complete in order to bypass the strict six month rule and log it on the system as a 3rd dose rather than a booster! Surely I can’t be fhe first person requesting this?It was at a vaccination hub so covering a large area.
It was really busy and they said that they had taken a lot of walk ins earlier in the day without appointments! Makes you wonder really.
Good luck everyone in accessing your third dose

Sue

Had my third yesterday. No reaction at all - almost as if it was a placebo !
