I spoke to my consultant today and their generic advice is to encourage people to get the vaccine were they can to ensure they get the same make both timed. There is a health screening before the vaccine is given. Any concerns about it to make sure you address this especially Any one with allergies.
Thanks for the updated page and information
Hi @Hmc63, sounds good to me.
I don’t know how easy it will be to ensure you get the same type of vaccine both times, I would be interested to know the experiences of others.
My.mum gets her first dose of the Pfizer vaccine tomorrow…she’s 86…and on no.medication…il ask them.about the second dose and update this forum if I learn anything. Her fear was she thought having the vaccine would mean she’d transmit coronavirus to myself…as this isn’t the case she’s going ahead with it…first time she’s been out since March last year…she has refused to leave the house. I’m.going with her …masks gloves and hand sanitizer at the ready. It’s an hour.out…
Hi @Hmc63 the first time I went out after the first lockdown I felt very nervous, the traffic was very noisy, fast and fumy.
I also was not used to other people and actually social distancing as it wasn’t invented before March.
Do encourage your mum to ask any questions and fears she wants to ask. If you are with her it might be worth doing the same.
Please do report back with both your experiences an your adventure. Stay safe both of you.
Hi @Hmc63, Blood Cancer UK are interested in information and experiences of people with blood cancer having vaccinations as there is currently little data, they can be contacted at support@bloodcancer.org.uk. I hope today went OK.
How did it go today?
It went well for my mum…it was really well organised. They were doing people in small batches. The humility of the over 80s…was amazing all happy to get the vaccine. Everything was explained… my mum’s concern was if she had the vaccine would she then give me coronavirus which we were reassured no…I asked about when I was likely to get done they said probably in the next few weeks…
The 2nd dose is likely in 6 to 12 weeks… for Pfizer. Once vaccinated Everyone waited 15.mins before leaving… all worked out from.the moment you left the cubicle…
My mum seems fine and reports no side effects… it was a weight off her mind and mine…after seeing the statistics today and the ongoing issues in London must be so frightening for many…
Use to live and work in.london 20 yrs ago…I’m.glad im.not there now…
And we had snow…today …it’s icey now -4 tonight…
Such a relief for you both. I’m so glad it all went smoothly! London is awful at the moment. The numbers are scary aren’t they! I hope you can both relax a little more this weekend, and even more so when you get the vaccine to. You both take care
Thanks…just hope anyone else who may be anxious or apprehensive is ok… let’s hope when they start to vaccinate everyone it goes smoothly…I’m lucky my Drs are quite good…thoughtful…onwards and upwards . Lazy day today. Loads of snow outside looks beautiful and white… as my dog Wolfie loves snow he can play in the garden…il be doing some drawing today
Did anybody attend the webinar. I found it really useful. Lots or questions answered.
Thanks so much @Hmc63 it is really useful to hear your mum’s and your experience.
No snow in my part of London but yours sounds picturesque from indoors and I am glad Wolfie loves it, I bet he comes in in quite a state.
What have you been drawing today?
Yes London is a scary place to be right now @Hmc63. I can’t believe that that many people are ignoring rules to cause such high levels of virus. Great that your mom got her vaccine and with luck we will have ours in the next five weeks.
How’s everyone doing?
Has anyone else been invited for their vaccine? Feel free to share any thoughts and comments you have!

Hi Alice
I’m speaking with my consultant in Thursday so hope to get an appointment sorted for after then for my vaccination. I’m not too bad. Just very anxious about everything at the moment. Trying to sort out issues for when I go vack to work as I wear 2 hearing aids and the masks gave made me feel very isolated.
@Emmaco, you raise such a good point about hearing issues and face masks and I can imagine you do feel very isolated.
I would make the other person aware that you have hearing issues and what would assist you.
I believe there are some face masks that are clear so you can see the person’s lips, but I believe these are few and far between, not ideal and obviously depends whether seeing someone’s lips move helps at all. There are also the Perspex visors.
I think it is worth asking if you feel that either of these might help.
Also I would say please everyone if you do not hear or understand what is said to you ask for it to be repeated or clarified till you do understand.
Thanks @Emmaco for raising this issue and has anyone else had similar issues?
Hi erica
I work on a ward for the NHS for female adults in rehab. So everyone has to wear a mask but we are only allowed certain ones provided by the trust advised by the government so unfortunately I am stuck with this issue at work. They have certain requirements they have to meet. The staff and patients are all aware that I am gard of hearing and need to lip read. Due to working with challenging patients we cannot wear the screen visors and as I work 13hr shifts(shielding at moment) they are not to be worn for long periods if time due to sweating etc. I gave been in touch with my union and we are allowing at all options and support at present. Occupational health, HR,Access to work etc
