Hard Lump behind Left Ear

My lump is still there and the same size I originally showed in the photos. Didn’t get bigger or smaller, just the same. I’ve had my lymph node checked out and they did an ultrasound and they said it was benign appearing. They also checked other nearby glands to see if there was any other clues, and everything looked how they are supposed too. I haven’t had any weird symptoms so I’ve decided to move on and live with it for now. If anything changes, I’ll definitely update!

I also have this lump, I noticed it after being sick last week. Question for everyone that had this, did it go away for any of you? Waiting to see a doctor but would be good to know if this went away or is just something you contonue to monitor.

I also discovered two lumps about 8 days ago. I saw my GP this past Monday. He did tell me that lymph nodes can swell up pretty much at any time for anything basically. I had been sick with the flu I’m guessing 3 weeks prior to this, but my sickness did last too solid weeks. He told me not to worry and if it doesn’t go away in a week to come back and we will do an ultrasound. I’ve noticed today it is pretty achy like everyone else was talking about. And there is some discomfort in my back shoulder jaw and neck unfortunately. I’m glad some of your ultrasounds were clean and good that’s what I’m hoping for, still can’t help but be worried though.

Hello @Jmoo92

Welcome to our forum.

We are sorry to hear that you are feeling worried about a lump behind your ear.

You have done the right thing in getting advice from your GP as we would recommend any health concerns, new lumps or bumps or any new or worsening symptoms to report to your GP.

Your GP is correct in that lymph nodes can be swollen for several reasons, which can vary from infections such as colds, tonsilitis, glandular fever and other viral or bacterial infections, to allergies, chronic conditions such as arthritis or lupus and cancers such as lymphoma.
Sometimes after having an infection, lymph nodes can stay raised for long periods of time, but it is important to still get this checked and to inform your GP of any additional symptoms such as drenching night sweats, feeling exhausted/ fatigued, itching, fevers, coughing, feeling short of breath or unexplained weight loss.
For our guide, please see our page Blood cancer symptoms and signs | Blood Cancer UK

It sounds like your GP is being thorough and going to monitor your symptoms. Please do keep them updated on how you are feeling and let us know how you’re doing.

If you would like to talk anything through with one of our team members, please give us a call on 0808 2080 888.

Take care & warm wishes,
Emma (Support Services Nurse)

Did anyone’s lump have pain? My wife just noticed her bump today and it looks exactly like what everyone here has…but so far I’ve seen that nobody has pain involved unless I’m mistaken? Strangely enough it wasn’t painful until after she acknowledged its existence…8:00pm October 20th

If anyone knows anything…my wife means the world to me and I’d be much less of a man if it wasn’t for her…everything crumbles if I lose her..Medicaid getting cut off potentially in November due to the shutdown so I’m not even sure if we can go get it checked out or if they’ll just shew us away I don’t know how doctors work I’m 28 years old and I’ve avoided the doctor all my life(up until recently hence Medicaid and trying to confirm good bill of health) otherwise I’ve never had health insurance before now

I experienced the same thing. I didn’t feel any pain until I noticed it. To be fair I started touching it and pressing it. So now it hurts when I press.

I am worried too. I don’t want it to be anything serious. I will see my doctor today.

A great big welcome @Rachel576 I like the way that you admitted touching and pressing your lump and now it hurts when you press it, such a temptation.

That’s what my worry does too, although obviously I know it is not the best thing to do.

Please do let us know how you get on at the doctors.

If you would like to talk to the Blood Cancer UK nurses they are available on 0808 2080 888.

Take care of yourself, trying to divert my mind does help me.

Hey there, I’ve noticed these hard lumps behind my left ear and my lymph nodes in my neck and groin are swollen, not to a crazy extent however I did notice them. I’ve had this weird fever that comes and goes for the last two weeks and crazy back and neck aches that just do not seem to go away. Was wondering what this could be and if I should get checked out.

Hello there @homxtxwn

Thank you for posting. So sorry to hear you have been experiencing symptoms. Whilst it is more likely that these are due to an infective process, it is worth talking to your GP if they persistent and they are unusual for you.

I do hope you find some reassurance around this soon, in the meantime, we do have some information on our page around Blood cancer symptoms and signs | Blood Cancer UK but please note these are a guide to talk to your GP about.

I do hope you feel better soon,

Gemma

Hi I noticed a soft-ish lump and behind my left ear by chance but I had already felt pain in my neck after I started cracking it

Now I have a very hard lump between my jaw and ear it hurts a little and my ear started hurting

Unfortunately my insurance is not active until march, and recently someone in my family was diagnosed with cancer with a lump and turned out to be brain cancer

It’s been concerning for a while but I avoided googling for that reason but now I felt the need to because of the more accruing ear and neck pain

Is that a common sign? Is there a reason to be scared or I can chill a little until my insurance is set

Is it likely to be cancerous or am I being too paranoid

Also they’re not visible at all but I feel them and sometimes they’re painful

Hi @allaith.hrlmi, welcome to the forum. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this worry, and I can imagine it must be worrying with your family member’s recent diagnosis weighing on your mind.

Lymph nodes can swell up for a multitude of different reasons - infections are common, but also things like allergies or other conditions. The fact that yours are painful and you’ve had neck pain doesn’t automatically point to anything serious, but persistent lumps that are causing you discomfort do need checking out, simply because you shouldn’t have to put up with the pain.

I understand you’re stuck without insurance until March (are you US-based?), but if things get worse or you’re in significant pain, it might be worth looking into whether there are any community health centers or low-cost clinics near you that could at least give you some peace of mind before March. I know that’s not ideal, but sometimes waiting when you’re this worried isn’t great either.

We have information on our blood cancer symptoms and signs page if you want to have a look - it covers what to watch out for and might help you feel a bit more prepared for when you can see a doctor. Just remember that most people with these symptoms don’t have blood cancer, but it’s always worth getting things checked to know what you’re dealing with.

Take care, and I hope you are pain-free soon,

Ceri

I too have just found a similar bump to those reporting. New, hard almost as if it’s cartilage (definitely not), zero skin protrusion or swollen.

I’d share a photo but it’s difficult to pickup with my camera.

I couldn’t believe how many similar cases there were in this thread after my initial research. Based on everyone’s results I’ll take the four-six weeks then do a checkup with the doc just to square the silver lining.

Thank you to everyone thats contributed.
